The National Historical Museum (MHN), created in 1922, is a federal institution linked to the Brazilian Institute of Museums (Ibram), an agency under the Ministry of Culture (MinC). It is one of the most important museums of Brazilian history, safeguarding museological, archival and bibliographical collections that add up to 300 thousand items. Recognized as a reference center for national and international museology, its mission is to promote collective mobilization to enhance the historical awareness and the right to the cultural heritage of Brazil through the formation and preservation of the collection, educational action and knowledge construction.
