The University of Hull was founded in 1927 – originally as University College Hull. We opened for business with 39 students and 14 ‘one-man’ departments. We’ve come a long way since then. The University now has more than 16,000 students and around 2,500 employees, including more than 1,000 academic staff.

As England’s 14th-oldest university, we have a proud heritage of academic excellence, and a history of creating and inspiring life-changing research. And we have no plans to stop helping to build a better world. Our Royal Charter says our mission is to “…advance education, scholarship, knowledge and understanding by teaching and research, for the benefit of individuals and society at large”. We interpret our mission in a modern context with a renewed focus on excellence in learning, teaching, research and enterprise, a transformative student experience and being an internationally-engaged anchor institution for our surrounding regions.

Our vision is for the University of Hull to be recognised for academic excellence that empowers people to shape the future. Our ambitions are bold and challenging – we’ll pursue our vision with a determination to exceed expectations, to contribute ever greater outcomes towards shaping a better world, and to encourage our students to strive for excellence.

The University of Hull fulfils the role of a Consortium Coordinator for project ECHOES.
